Tomorrow's Faith: A New Framework for Christian Belief by Adrian Smith, 2005,  John Hunt Publishing Ltd. 120 pages, ISBN 1-905047-17-7,   £9.99.

In common with all human beings as spiritual creatures Christians carry a set of beliefs about that Reality we name "God" which underlies existence and which is a guide through life. For some of us the seeds of this were planted hi early childhood, from "our mother's knee", from Sunday School, Catechism class, and from our early experiences of the sacred in church. As we matured they were thought about, questioned and became more personal to us. For others, they came to us later in life as we sought to understand what becoming a Christian meant.

Universally held Christian dogmas, for many today, do not ring true with our own experience. Scientific knowledge, Biblical studies, and human consciousness have all evolved. Hence, there is a gap between the formulation of the ancient Creeds and the way we understand religious truths today.

This book presents a contemporary alternative to traditional expressions of belief and is offered as an invitation to think through each statement and formulate for ourselves one that more nearly resonates with our own understanding and experience, and which will help us on our spiritual journey by leading us to a new awareness of a richness in Christian beliefs perhaps not previously perceived.

The God Shift, Our changing Perception of the Ultimate Mystery, by
Adrian B. Smith, 2004, Published by The Liffey Press • £12.95 • ISBN 1-904148-47-6 •New Revised Edition! 280 pages

In all aspects of life — scientific, sociological, political, cultural, ethical, psychological — we no longer express ourselves nor understand our world as our parents did.Yet we are expected to believe in and worship a God with concepts that have remained unchanged since the Middle Ages. Hence the sense of unreality about God, about religion, about the Church experienced by so many Christians today.

In this insightful and challenging book, Adrian Smith argues that our very idea of God must be changed and brought up to date. Smith, who is a Catholic missionary priest, examines thirteen factors in our contemporary life which he believes require a shift in our perception of God — a shift which will ultimately make the reality of God central to our lives again. Smith believes that the Western world is becoming less and less religious but more and more spiritual, and that increasingly people no longer look to the traditional Churches for spiritual nourishment. It is to these people that Adrian Smith offers this book. He argues that there is no one way of relating to God and that each of us must make that discovery for ourselves. As he says, in this book he is "offering a compass which I hope will assist spiritual explorers in the Christian tradition to locate where they are on their journey and to help them on their way".

A Reason for Living and Hoping, A Christian Appreciation of the emerging New Era of Consciousness. by Adrian B. Smith MA, 2002, A St Paul's Publication, ISBN 0-85439-642-X, £8.99, 239 pages

This book opens our awareness to a new dimension of our world. No one will deny that our world is in a chaotic state. The author claims that this is not a sign of humanity's deterioration but, on the contrary, that we are experiencing the birth pangs of a new consciousness, a break-through to a new era, a higher order. He identifies the signs of the times with the values of the vision proclaimed by Jesus of Nazareth. There are, he suggests, already signs to be seen that we are coming closer to that new era of human evolution which Jesus referred to as the Kingdom of God. Can there be a more compelling reason for living and hoping?
